Key Construction building three new hotels in Kansas City market
July 26th, 2011 | by Lucinda Dodd |Kansas City, Mo.-based Key Construction is set to make a big impact on the tourism market in the Kansas City area; the firm has started work on three new hotel projects in this market.
Key Construction has begun construction on The Ambassador Hotel KC, Courtyard at Briarcliff and Holiday Inn Express & Suites. Each of these hotels will cater to a different market segment in the Kansas City area.
The 43-key Ambassador Hotel KC will be the adaptive reuse of the Gate City National Bank building inside the downtown loop. The upscale boutique will be part of the Ambassador Hotel Collection by Paul Coury of Coury Properties, which has similar properties in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Coury is developing the historic building along with local partner Jason Swords.
The 123-key Courtyard at Briarcliff will sit atop a new 16,000-square-foot conference center, offering views of the Missouri River and the downtown skyline at Briarcliff, a mixed-use development just north of downtown. The Courtyard will be owned and operated by Chuck Mackey and Capital Management from Kansas City.
The 109-Key Holiday Inn Express & Suites will be the latest addition to the airport market, which has remained relatively strong in Kansas City. Mike Patel of Gayatri Group of Hotels is the owner/Operator, adding the Express to several other local properties in the company’s portfolio.
Key Construction has built more than 75 hotels across the country during the last several years.
“It’s nice to finally see some new hotels in KC,” said Roger Summers of Key Construction’s Kansas City office. “While all will present their own challenges, we’re excited to be building three unique hotels right here in our back yard.”
All three hotels are scheduled to be open by July of 2012.
